Paul and I met in June of 2014 through a dating website. Don’t laugh… Seriously its true we gave it a try. ( I will post my tips about that on a separate blog newsletter)
We talked for a week before we decided to meet at a restaurant the following weekend. Our first date was at Busboys and Poets in Hyattsville, MD. I remember walking into the restaurant and heading straight to the books I purchased Mom & Me By Maya Angelou.
Fast Forward to December 24th, 2016 Paul and I got engaged at The Rockefeller Center in New York City. ( Paul and I dated for about 2 years before getting engaged)
After 5 months of stressful wedding planning, I decided to alter our wedding plans. There was so much anxiety surrounding planning, finalizing a budget and finding the perfect dress. I gave up, I remember going to my first dress fitting with a friend and feeling overwhelmed. Might I add i left in tears! Nothing went as I had imaged as a child and that was disappointing. My dream was to have a very intimate destination wedding at an all-inclusive resort.
My focus shifted from wedding planning to the wedding preparation. Leading out to our engagement there were some unsavory comments about the relationship that made me feel inadequate. Paul was the first man that never wanted anything from me other than for me to relax and trust the process. He has always been very compassionate, understanding and patient. During our courtship, I never had to wonder if he was telling the truth his actions spoke volumes.
I remember being uncomfortable one day visiting him at this place of residence while we were dating and him looking to me and saying ” I promise one day things will be better than this Just trust me”, and I remember thinking this man is crazy. Well, 4 months after he was offered a job to work in New York City.
Funny how life works huh?
Paul and I have traveled to Boston, New York, New Jersey, Hawaii, Florida, Ohio, Colorado, Vegas, Virginia, Utah, Indiana, Maryland, and now we currently reside in California.
We are currently gearing up for our next three trips, Stay tuned.
